The Diplomatic Table: Blair House Welcomes the World
This program is part of the Artistic Table Lecture Series.
Blair House became The President’s Guest House in 1942 to “wage peace.” It hosts official visits of world leaders and special events for the diplomatic corps. Managed by the Department of State’s Office of the Chief of Protocol, its restored interiors and important cultural heritage collections create an elegant, comfortable, and secure setting for international diplomatic hospitality.
Explore Blair House’s intriguing history as a friendly home-away-from-home for its visitors from the days of presidents Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln to today. Highlights include the ways Blair House sets a welcoming table to meet guests’ needs, efficient service, and aesthetic appeal for a variety of occasions while appropriately incorporating pieces from its historical collections.
