Hillwood has partnered with the James Renwick Alliance for Craft as part of their Distinguished Artists Series to present artist Debora Moore as part of a public program at Hillwood. Debora Moore, a contemporary artist in the Glass: Art. Beauty. Design. exhibition, will first present a lecture detailing her artistic process and vision. Moore will then be joined by Hillwood’s director of horticulture, Jessica Bonilla, for a presentation on orchids, and later participants can enjoy Hillwood’s Glass: Art. Beauty. Design. exhibition with Wilfried Zeisler, Hillwood’s chief curator and deputy director. 

Four times a year, the James Renwick Alliance brings notable American craft artists from around the country to Washington, D.C. for the Distinguished Artist Series.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Debora Moore is well known for her imagined glass orchids and organic forms. By combining new techniques with traditional glassblowing skills, and an attention to detail, Moore is able to achieve a unique depth of color and exquisitely crafted forms. Moore started working in glass in the late 1980s at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, WA and has since served as instructor at Pratt, the Hilltop Glass Program in Tacoma, and the Pilchuck Glass School. In 2005, Moore was artist-in-residence at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma and the Abate Zanetti in Murano, Italy. In 2007 The Corning Museum of Glass awarded Moore their Rakow Commission and in 2020, she was featured in the "Renwick Invitational: Forces Of Nature" at the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery. Currently, Moore has work on display at Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens in Glass: Art. Beauty. Design.
